How to Make Your Bedroom Sexier

5 Simple Tips to Help You Make Your Bedroom Way More Alluring to Dates

Be honest — would you describe your current bedroom as “sexy”?

Setting the mood for sex is undeniably important. Still, unless you’re planning on having couch sex, you’re most likely doing the deed in bed — and one thing that often gets overlooked in the process is the overall look, feel and functionality of the bedroom you're doing it in.

No one's saying you have to go all out on an interior designer and high-end furnishings. That said, a little effort and thought can go a long way in taking your bedroom from lacking to packing.

We asked a few real folks who sleep with men for their best tips and advice on how to make a bedroom sexier, and they did not disappoint. From decor to the overall vibe and accessibility of those essentials, these tips will help you creatively curate your space to make it more of a turn-on.

Here are the top five ways to make your bedroom sexier:

1. Clean and Tidy the Space

This might seem like an obvious tip, but keeping your space clean goes beyond just changing your sheets every so often.

“Think about what your partner would be seeing in various positions,” says Steph, 34. “I can't tell you how many times I've been straight-up distracted during sex because I'm facing a corner that's full of dust.”

Wipe down surfaces, clean your mirrors, and vacuum even those hard-to-reach spots that might be in view when you and your partner switch positions.

Use cleaning products that don't leave a harsh smell behind. If you really want to go the extra mile, opt for natural cleaning products with scents linked to arousal, like lavender, vanilla or jasmine.

2. Make Sure the Bed is Nice

We get it; mattresses aren't cheap. Neither is quality bedding. But investing in where you sleep is important for so many reasons: better sleep and better sex included.

“There's nothing worse than having sex on sheets that feel thin and cheap,” says Kai, 29. “A quick Google search of quality, inexpensive bed sheets is an easy solution to this problem.”

If you haven't upgraded your mattress in a while and aren't in a place to purchase a new one, a foam mattress topper is a less expensive way to make your bed more comfortable without breaking the bank.

This should also go without saying, but a bed frame is not optional — hooking up on a mattress that’s directly on the floor is well-known to be distasteful to women.

3. Create an Ambiance

Thanks to modern technology, it's never been easier to create a sexy bedroom ambiance.

Smart light bulbs allow you to dim the lights and opt for warm settings in various colors to create a sultry atmosphere. Virtual assistants like Alexa can change your light settings and play whatever music you'd like to set the mood for.

“I live above a loud bar, so having music playing in the bedroom for me is essential,” says Jada, 27. “I like to put on something without words that drown out the outside noise but allows me to stay focused on what's happening at the moment.”

Candles, reed diffusers, or incense that make your bedroom smell good and inviting are also solid ambiance enhancers.

4. Make Sex Accessories Easily Accessible

You've cleaned your space, upgraded your sheets, and have the lighting, music, and scent just right. Once you're in bed and things get going, the last thing you want to have to do is leave to get the essentials.

“I love a guy that's prepared and ready with whatever we might need during sex,” says Bri, 26.

Make sure you have condoms, lube, and, if your partner is comfortable with it, toys all within your arms for easy access. This cuts down on awkward fumbling, which can seriously impact the mood in the heat of the moment.

5. Eliminate Clutter and Distractions

If you have a TV or computer in your bedroom, ensure it's turned off before you start things. Similarly, do a quick sweep of your room to get rid of any unnecessary clutter and distractions. Think of mail, cards, drinking glasses, or anything that might disrupt the mood that shouldn't be there.

“This might just be a 'me' thing, but I once went back to a guy's place where he had a ton of clothes laid out on this chair in the corner,” says Claire, 23. “Instead of being in the moment, I was judging what other outfits he had tried on before our date. Putting things away that don't need to be out definitely goes a long way, at least for me.”
